| For the poor to reach the fullness of life that TSPI envisions, sufficiency in all areas must be attained. One particular need that TSPI seeks to address is the adequacy of shelter for the poor. Because complete shelter packages remain largely unaffordable, most of the poor defer their house construction projects. As a result, most of these families still live in crude shelters incapable of providing them the protection they need against negative external shocks. Due to the temporary nature of their dwellings, these families can be rendered homeless anytime natural calamities and man-made disasters strike. In addition, the poor are also more vulnerable to diseases caused by unhygienic surroundings. Aside from the substandard quality of their shelters, most of the homes of the poor are also overcrowded which causes its own set of social problems, including friction within the family and children taking to the streets. |

To shorten the period it will take for clients to move to decent shelters, TSPI would like to offer them access to affordable financing for their house construction needs. By giving them the capacity to acquire quality materials to build their houses, not only is TSPI raising their quality of life but also that of the community as a whole.
Through a social housing product, TSPI aims to reward its clients for their loyalty to the program and for imbibing the values that TSPI upholds. The Social Housing Loan is a special loan intended to finance the costs of house construction and improvement.
The following criteria guide the selection of qualified clients:
- Must be active members for at least 10 loan cycles or a period of at least 5 years in the TKP, ASA or in the SEDP;
- Must have attained an outstanding Repayment Rate on all loans and a high attendance rate in the weekly center meetings in the last 2 consecutive years;
- Must have proof of lot ownership
- Must not be above 65 years old.
