Micro-enterprise : Jennili’s Boutique
TSPI Branch : TSPI – Paniqui Branch

Text Box: Lilia Benitez, entrepreneur, mother and housewife, is a survivor. Four years ago, she fought breast cancer and won. Her zest for life and love from her family carried her through the trying times. Drawing on the same inspiration, Lilia embarked on a buy and sell business and once more brought herself to the threshold of success.

Barely through with her cancer treatment and with drained financial resources, Lilia joined TSPI in 2001 and availed of working capital loan of P 5,000 to sell cosmetics and other beauty products. From the initial door-to-door selling, she managed to establish her business in a market stall in Moncada Market, Tarlac. When a new market was built after a fire, Lilia was poised to grab the opportunity to acquire rights to four adjoining market stalls. Thus, the birth of Jennili’s Boutique, named after Lilia and her daughter, Jenny, whom Lilia considers as her business partner.

The Boutique sells all kinds of products- from cosmetics by Avon, to Hang Ten shirts, underwear by Sara Lee, and Ready-to-Wear (RTW) goods from Divisoria, among others. Average monthly sales amount to a little more than half a million pesos.

In addition to direct buyers in the market, Lilia sells though a network of 300 part-time dealers providing supplementary income to salaried employees such as teachers and to housewives and students. Lilia relates, “pumupunta ako sa iba’t-ibang lugar para magrecruit ng mga tao para din makatulong sa pagdagdag nang kanilang kita.” (I go to different places to encourage people [ to become dealers ] and help them earn. ) The dealers earn 20-25% on every sale made. An average dealer earns P 2,500/month. To keep her dealers motivated, Lilia holds regular meetings where outstanding dealers are recognized and more importantly, where product incentives are provided.

Lilia plans to improve her Boutique by enclosing it in glass panels and installing an air conditioning system. Her expansion plans include the setting-up of a branch in the nearby town of Paniqui, Tarlac.

‘Dahil sa Panginoon, sa TSPI, sa pag-aalaga sa sarili, at sa suporta ng pamilya kaya ako nakabangon ulit.” Lilia accords her success to the Lord, to TSPI, to the way she takes care of herself and to the support of her family. She adds,“ na-improve po ang personality ko dito kasi marami akong nakakausap na tao. Mahiyain po ako dati, pero sa ganitong negosyo, hindi pwede.” (My personality has improved since I get to deal with a lot of people. I used to be shy, but in this business, such trait is not an asset. )

Text Box:
“Dahil dito, marami din akong natutulungang mga tao sa pagkita ng pera,” Lilia remarks on how her business has helped others. (Through the business, I am able to help many others generate income.) Indeed, providing opportunities for additional income to 300 dealers and 2 full-time store assistants is no small feat for a business which got a boost from additional working capital of P 5,000.
