Micro-enterprise : Pre-school (Fabulous Christian Academy)
TSPI Branch : TSPI – Bacoor Branch
Ret. Col. Diego D. Rapanut, a native of Umingan, Pangasinan, is the eldest of the seven (7) children of Rodrigo Rapanut and Petronila Delfin. He is a father of four (4) children who are all professionals now. Raised in discipline and understanding that education is the best and the most priced possession their parents can bequeath them, he never permits poverty to hinder his ambitions. Dedication and persistence are the main motivating factors he used to achieve his goal and earn a degree he always wanted. He finished the degree in Industrial Education major in Electronics in 1968 at Philippine College of Arts and Trades (PCAT). He went immediately to teaching at Pasay City High School, where he also studied high school. He also took his masters degree in education in that same year at PCAT. After four (4) years of teaching, he resigned and joined the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
During his stay in the service, his zeal for teaching never really left him believing that teaching is one of the noblest professions. So he decided to take the professional board exam for teachers. After passing the exam, he became an instructor at the PAF College of Aeronautics from 1982 to 1987. After his retirement, he looked back to the thing that he is most passionate about, teaching. He, with the help of his daughter Abigail, a successful pre-school owner in San Pedro, Laguna, and his wife Afable, also a degree holder in education, started to open a learning center and shared their knowledge and wisdom to young children. In the center, the students are given affordable and high quality education. The center, Fabulous Christian Academy (FCA), committed to enlighten the Christian faith and the development of educational core values for future roles as law-abiding and useful citizens of the country.
It was established in 2003 under the name Aubrey’s Educational Center (AEC). Armed with Mr. Diego Rapanut’s degree, experience in teaching secondary education and major administrative positions held in the PAF, and Mrs. Afable Rapanut’s degree in education with a major in Nutrition at Phil Women’s University (PWU), they came up with the idea of putting up an educational center that will contribute to the development of a better community. The couple is hands on in running the business. Col. Rapanut handles the administrative department while his wife, acts as the school principal. AEC then had five (5) employees: an administrator, principal, and three (3) teachers who taught twenty five (25) nursery, kinder, and pre-elementary (NKP) pupils.
As the number of students started to increase in the following year, the couple applied for a P95,000.00 loan from TSPI in August 2005 under the Individual Loan Assistance Program (ILAP). The loan was used to renovate additional rooms and buy slightly used computer sets to catch up with the fast paced technology of learning for their students. In 2005, they decided to change the name from Aubrey’s Educational Center to Fabulous Christian Academy with it’s broader commitment to produce well-developed and Christian oriented students that will excel both in academics and social undertakings. “About 150 pupils, in various levels (pre-elementary and elementary) were already benefited by the social development program of the school. FCA produced students, who were distinctively showing academic excellence and participation in various schools and community activities in Trece Martires City, Cavite”, Mr. Rapanut said.
In May 2005, anticipating the increase in enrollees, the couple got another loan amounting to P150,000. It was used for the renovation and repainting of the six (6) additional rooms they acquired at ASAMA Homes Subdivision, Indang, Cavite. Portion of the loan were used to purchase equipment for Home Economics and Practical Arts classes.
To-date, FCA had expanded to three (3) branches – two (2) of which are located in Trece Martires City (one at Heritage Homes in Brgy. Gregorio and another one at Regina Ville Subdivision in Brgy. Inocencio) and the third one located in ASAMA Homes Subd. in Indang, Cavite. They are able to employ two (2) administrative staffs and nine (9) teachers handling a total of 128 NKP and elementary students. Student- teacher ratio stands at 14:1, thereby providing the best quality education essential to the “whole-man concept”.
In the next five (5) years, Mr. Diego Rapanut and wife would like to increase the number of enrollees, acquire additional room to house additional students, hire additional qualified teachers, develop the school’s information technology capability, and purchase more school equipment, teaching aids and devices.
With Mr. Diego Rapanut’s dedication and love for teaching young people to become fruitful citizens, he embraced the thoughts written in Proverbs 22: 6 “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
